Extremely Online

RMIT Digital Media presents Extremely Online, a digital showcase that launches tomorrow and runs June 3-6, 2021. Free and completely online at extremelyonline.rmitdigitalmedia.com, it will include digital and interactive works alongside live performances.

We are lucky to have guest artists similarobjects and Bridget Chappell participating. They will both be showcasing AV works alongside interactive, digital and performative pieces by students and alumni.

similarobjects is a Filipino experimental sound artist, producer and composer who will be presenting their last ever AV piece under that moniker, a 30 minute AV performance called ‘Solipsism'.

Bridget Chappell is an organiser and artist, known for their work with Melbourne Sound School and as Hextape amongst much more, who will contribute a new AV work.

Both works will be presented as part of a livestream performance program from 6:30pm AEST on Friday June 4, alongside jemisahologram aka Lauren Abineri, an early-career multidisciplinary artist from RMIT Digital Media whose practice includes music and sound-based interventions, solo and collaborative.

Extremely Online is curated, organised and produced by the Curating the Digital studio. The studio of 27 participants took on the challenge of staging an online digital event for the program this semester. The ongoing impact of the pandemic has limited face to face events and despite hardships for many, this has contributed to an increasingly diverse ecology of online events. Curating the Digital studio seeks to participate in this space through Extremely Online, in the hope of connecting people and providing a creative platform for the RMIT Digital Media community. Those of us in Victoria find ourselves in lockdown as we ready to launch the event, as many have experienced around the world over the last year, and this makes our work all the more vital. Stay safe, and please join us online over the coming days.
